“Combines a really good tour of the market, and some history to understand Hungary. The cooking part of the event included some really helpful tips, and step by step instructions. Meet Gábor Glasner or another GastroGuides Budapest host at the Central Market Hall for an 85-minute German-language tasting walk. You will sample salami, sausage, cheese, paprika, pickles, honey, sweets, wine, Unicum, and homemade syrup, then receive three digital food and restaurant guides.

“Superb afternoon learning about Hungarian food and food traditions, tasting some salami, cheeses, honey, pickles, strudel, and even a famous Hungarian chocolate bar. Gabor, our guide, was lively and fun, throwing in lots of asides to help us understand context and history. We tasted some interesting wines as well as famous spirits as well. Great fun and since the tour, we're looking at Hungarian menus with renewed understanding and far more confidence. Gabor does this tour in German, which wasn't a problem for us, but if you don't speak German, learn now so that you can take this tour when you visit Budapest! :) It would be worth it!Read more”

The class is in English, limited to 15 people, and includes wine and pálinka tasting.

“This was a wonderful class. The food we made (goulash, chicken paprikash, and apple strudel) were far better than anything we ate in the restaurants, including some very highly rated ones. Vesna was a great teacher and was very patient and informative. Highly recommended.”

“Since I ended up as a solo tour, my guide showed me much more than the markets; eg. the opera house. We had samples at numerous market stalls. She had them explain how they made chimney cakes before I tasted one- yummmm. And I had my fair share of mulled wine which was all included in the tour. Very pleasant and knowledgeable guide.”

“We had an incredible personalised tour of the Jewish quarter that not only showed us the synagogues but also covered so much more of the history and culture of the city. Our guide Kinga was so knowledgeable and our discussions went far beyond the scope of the tour. She introduced us to the ruin bars and local restaurants that we visited many times afterwards. It left us understanding much more about the great city of Budapest and wanting to return. Thanks again Kinga.”
